KOMPAÏ robotics, created in 2016, aims to commercialize robotic solutions for frail individuals and their caregivers to relieving this social imbalance, and generating more available time for value-added activities and improved physical and emotional wellbeing for the patients. To do that, KOMPAÏ robotics bought from Robosoft all the healthcare assets including the KOMPAÏ trade name in April 2017. Designed to be seamlessly integrated in the long-term care ecosystem, the Kompaï robot, a new ICT-based new product offers one of the most promising non-medicated technological solutions for better health and wellbeing for both the main users and their helpers.

Kompaï is a major contribution to one of the European Union’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 3: To ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages. KIARA is the name of the project, Kompaï is robots’ trade name of the robots. The KIARA is a project bridgesing the gap between several years of research (which led to the development of Kompaï-1 and Kompaï-2 robots for research purposes) and the foreseen expected large-scale deployment (with a worldwide potential of 20 Million robots), first in nursing homes then at in individual homes. It aims to transform a TRL6 robot into a business innovation for the real-world, thanks to anchored in an in-depth understanding deep comprehension of nursing home needs and their economic structure.

This comprehension has been jointly defined with KORIAN (ajouter le lien), the European leader in ageing well, encompassing 715 nursing homes, 72 000 residents, and 47 000 employees, throughout France, Italy, Germany and Belgium). Our analysis is derived from 2 years of working together and experimentations with previous several generations of robots.

The KIARA robots differ from previous Kompaïrobots by bringing physical assistance along with cognitive assistance. The physical assistance feature, whose financial viability can be demonstrated, is now protected by patented mechanisms, allowing also more agile and intuitive devices. KIARA also proposes a business innovation that is a 24/7 based operating model, made possible by partnering with existing infrastructures.

KOMPAÏ robotics has built a business model with the more important stakeholders of the ecosystem. We make the same robot for communities and home markets : only one model, is easier to produce, optimize and deploy. Such robot has unlimited possible uses : our approach is to focus first on those user cases presenting an obvious and short ROI. With KORIAN, we have selected 5 scenarios, among them mobility assistance of for patients and night surveillance. Combining these 2 scenarios leads to an of about approximately 2 months ROI. That is is what we plan to demonstrate in real conditions through KIARA (three pilot sites in different European countries for more than 1 full for over a year), to convince the pioneer customers that we already have with us key supporters (see support letters, link or are they in a resource category on the website?), to reserve robots quickly and collect put in their pre-orders. And we will also demonstrate that a robot is a flexible and universal device by implementing 3 other demanded requested scenarios, that have less clear ROI : group and individual distractions, patient monitoring, and of Alzheimer’s patients support.

Successful market penetration requires clear user cases and well-defined short-term economic benefits to convince the ecosystem to adopt such a disruptive technology. Our strategy is to sell robots based on ROI arguments, then to develop extra additional business by supplementing new functions on the original hardware. Our studies and partnerships indicate that nursing homes are ready for these devices, paving the way for the home market. KIARA’s success will not only allow the company to reach € 50M turnover but also to create 150 new European jobs by 2023.
